Building a Culture Dedicated to Automotive Service Excellence
National Express Transit’s mission is providing the safest, highest-quality transportation services – on time, every time. Our operations focus on five core values: safety, customers, people, community, and excellence.
As an organization, we’ve been focused on initiatives that truly embody these five core values and will help us achieve our mission. One of those initiatives is automotive service excellence certifications. We encourage employees across the organization to become ASE-certified and are also encouraging entire shops to become ASE Blue Shield shops.
ASE certifications are difficult to obtain, with only two out of every three test-takers passing on their first attempt. Applicants must also have two years of on-the-job training or one year of on-the-job training and a two-year degree in automotive repair to qualify, and must retake the test every five years to keep up with ever-advancing and ever-evolving automotive technologies.
Recently, maintenance technician Jason Boudrow has earned the prestigious ASE Master Automobile Technician certification. Boudrow is the second maintenance technician to earn this certification at our facility in Boston. Luis Salcedo also recently earned the prestigious ASE Master School Bus Technician certification as well.
For shops to receive the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence, at least 75% of technicians performing diagnosis and repairs at a location must already be ASE-certified and each are of service offered in the maintenance shop must be covered by an ASE-certified technician.
Recently, our Merced location has earned the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence and so have several of our other locations.
“To earn the ASE Blue Seal certification means your team is among ‘the best of the best’,” said Jim Moore, Vice President of Maintenance for Durham School Services. “This program ensures our technicians stay current with the latest technology and processes. Our maintenance team in Spokane Currently has four ASE Master Certified technicians with one more on the way.”
We’ve put together an infographic below outlining some impressive statistics surrounding the ASE certification program and National Express Transit’s progress toward this company-wide initiative.
As Jim Moore says, “Continued education and training are key to safe service given advances in vehicle technology. Our people are dedicated to ensure we are putting the safest vehicles on the road – making this recognition well deserved.”
We are excited to continue our dedication to excellence and expertise in maintenance and safety!
